The Community Foundation has contracted with the Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI) to conduct a ‘Transfer of Wealth’ study for each of our five counties of interest: Onondaga, Madison, Cayuga, Cortland and Oswego. The idea is to determine how much money is going to pass into the hands of the next generation in various periods of time in each of these counties.   This information will then be used to do outreach in the community to raise awareness about the power of capturing even 5% or 10% of that money for a community endowment.

This program is geared to Legacy Members staff, board of directors and volunteers.

About Leave a Legacy:  Leave a Legacy of Oswego is an organization whose purpose is to further the communities’ knowledge of legacy giving and how it helps provides sustainability and promotes growth to local non profits agencies.

LEAVE A LEGACY® of Oswego County

It is a community based program designed to help people learn about charitable giving through a will or estate plan. The program is a cooperative effort to educate community members and legal and professional advisors on the importance and impact of planned charitable giving efforts in Oswego County.

Supported by education and training of charities, fundraisers and donor advisors that is provided by a planned giving council(s)

It is a national effort to inspire people from all walks of life and all income levels to think beyond their lifespan when doing good works. Imagine how much good could be done if each one of us remembered a favorite charity or cause in our will or estate plan? The impact would be immeasurable!

Make a difference in the lives that follow.

Our Mission

To raise awareness of planned giving and increase the number of planned charitable gifts made in Oswego County.

Our History

In 1997, the National Committee on Planned Giving (NCPG) adopted LEAVE A LEGACY® as its public outreach program. It is modeled after the original program in Columbus, Ohio.

In the past four years Leave a Legacy has implemented a community education program through a television, radio, print, and direct mail campaign within Oswego County and the Central New York area. This campaign and several educational presentations helped us make continued progress toward our objective to raise awareness of planned giving.
